Actually this has been proved wrong. As long as your careful, keep them in a good tempered area they'll be fine. I still have some of my original CDs and DVDs that I burned that work fine - of course it doesn't hurt to backup those discs though. Scratching them is easy. ;)
Tell me about it!
Many of the CDs I burned before 2000 are coasters by now. And they were handeled with extreme care... No UV light and room temperature. I was so stupid to believe the industry claims of '100 years longevity' and used them for archiving my projects.
Now a big part of my 90's projects is lost and I will never get them back. Redundant HD-Backups are the way to go. CDs and DVDs I only use anymore for transporting data (blanks are cheap, they then can stay at their destination) or when I have to hand out a copy of a project to a customer. And of course for music and movies in order to be compatible to the rest of the world. But I would never again archive my projects on any DVD or CD. Too risky...
Blue-Ray as well as HD-DVD are not interesting at all for me at the moment, so I couldn't care less if they are incorporated in the upcoming Mac Pros...
Maybe that changes when the prices come down and HDTV finally gets into a stage where it actually really works flawlessly. Since I am not that big of a TV fan anyway, I don't see the need for it... When HDTV equipment costs as much as the 'normal' equipment these days and my current CRT-TV imploded, I might maybe consider it buying that stuff... Until then I have all I need to be happy...

Ok, I'll go first. E.I. = torture, and where is the line to hook electrodes up to KSM's balls?
Good. Let's keep the language clear an unencumbered with euphemism. Too bad nobody in any official capacity will do so - it is highly disturbing that our elected officials choose to lie about something that is obviously an open secret.
Now, the fact of the matter is, torture is unconstitutional, and the US is a party to a UN treaty outlawing torture. So I don't understand how it can possibly be legal under any circumstances. We are in breach of our own constitutional principles as well as international law.
Torture is wrong. I cannot support it as policy. As much as I recognize the need to gather intelligence from all sources including prisoners, I simply cannot speak out in favor of torture. It's not something that our society should value or accept, even against our enemies. Furthermore, it sets a bad example both internationally and at home.

mmmm doesn't like streaming from tvcatchup.com
new frame twice a second but sound is ok. Vid card is Radeon 9000 with 64MB.
Is that the issue or the paltry 512MB ram?

LaTex is just about my favourite free app for producing professional looking technical documents. I use the front end TeXShop (http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/texshop.html).

That's so he can look through it!
Seriously, that's worth mentioning?
Someone asked about it so I responded?
It's just an ocular prosthesis for those that are missing an eye/eyes.

Yeah must be crossed posts!
What is weird though is that I just ran geekbench and got a score of 764 with only 256mb ram compared with 732 when I had 512md ram
could it be that the dodgy dimm was registering its capacity but hindering the machine in the geekbench tests due to it being faulty?
Geekbench isn't super consistent with it's scores in my experience. Xbench is even worse. I have seen GB waver as much as 30-40 points in identical situations.
The best benchmarks for consistency which is exactly what you need in a benchmark:
Cinebench (CPU and Hardware/Software Graphics)
SuperPrime (prime number CPU bench)
PowerFractal (Altivec)
OpenMark (3D video)
Let 1000 Windows Bloom (2D video)
QuickBench (hard disk)

I would change the 'boldness' of the font so that 'iPod' is thin and 'Life' is thick.
Nice '+' icon BTW. :)

How do they track individual users to know that one person owns multiple devices?
Marginalization of iOS!? That's some funny stuff. One company has more market share than all others combined and you talk marginalization. Full of hot air.

So whats your opinion, personally i think it was to focused on the iphone...
I hate these keynotes with a passion and always wish someone would napalm all the smug brainwashed idiots in the audience constantly applauding Steve "Hitler" Jobs like he was deity... ooh look a button, this calls for a standing ovation... creepy freaks. But enough about me.
I thought it was pretty underwhelming. Even though the iPhone appears to be a very cool and well designed gadget, the battery solution blows (short life + non-swappable) and 4/8 GB is a joke. Initially it seemed everyone was drooling all over the screens, but after the excitement had settled down I guess it wasn't so hot after all. For some reason it gave me flashbacks to that Keynote where he showed that god awful Motorola ROKR phone with built-in iTunes, with all these old geezer CEOs from various third parties making awkward fish-out-of-water appearances and stuttering their way through written notes... but yeah, I guess people who were looking forward to Leopard would feel kind of miffed. Myself I don't get very excited over point releases, call me when they have OS11 ready.

I mean like, I have the new brit Femme Fatale album, ripped it to FLAC.
I used MAX to convert it to ALAC and everything is fine, but when I checked the bit rates of each individual songs in iTunes they were different, is it supposed to be like this or is it some problem with MAX and how it encodes them?
Like one song would have 900 something and another song would have 1100 something, it's weird.
